Why Fiberglass Pools

April 7, 2010 By admin

Collection of Fiberglass Pools Fiberglass pools have many advantages over concrete (gunite) or liner pools. While fiberglass pools might be more expensive to install than concrete pools or liner pools initially, they tend to save owners money over the long haul. Fiberglass pools never need liner replacements or do not need periodic resurfacing or acid washes. Owners of fiberglass pools typically use less chemicals to keep their pools in balance than owners of concrete or liner pools because fiberglass does not leach alkalis into the water. Electrical bills for homes that have fiberglass pools are usually lower than those that have comparable liner or concrete pools because pumps and filters do not have to work as long and hard to keep fiberglass pools clean.

Fiberglass swimming pools have a smooth clean gel coat finish that is non-abrasive, compare that to some pebble pools that are so abrasive they can harm your skin. Fiberglass pools are constructed of a high tensile strength fiberglass which allows the pool shell to flex to accommodate earth movement under all adverse climate conditions without cracking, also the gel cote surface is smooth and non-porous so it cleans easily and is very stain resistant, therefore almost maintenance free. Fiberglass pools are installed much faster, in some cases in as little as 3 days compare to a concrete or liner pool that can take months to complete.

Fiberglass pools come in many shapes and colors to fit anyone’s taste. They also come with a 35 year warranty on the structure or shell and 15 years warranty on the gel coat finish, as compared to 10 years for cement pools and only 7 years for liner pools. Also fiberglass pools never need to be drained, other pools such as liner and cement pools need frequent draining to remove cracks, to be acid washed, clean stains and re-plaster. Similarly, vinyl liner pools must be drained to replace liners or repair liners.
